1 - Where do you live?
In the Watch Lake area of the Cariboo, near 70 Mile House, BC, Canada.
2 - What do you do (for a living, or what do you study as a student)?
I work in 100 Mile House as a Registered Nurse. I entered nursing more than 33 years ago and have spent the past 30 of those years working in public health….first as a Public Health Nurse, then as a Clinical Resource Coordinator, and most recently as a Knowledge Coordinator in the immunization program.
3 - Tell us what made you passionate about immunization.
Public Health in general has been a passion for many years. When I was a public health nurse my work focused on a variety of programs. But after moving into an educator role, my focus these past 12 years has been almost exclusively on the immunization program. I find the field of immunization extremely interesting. Where else can you see such huge rewards in health status with such a limited investment? I am a strong advocate of having children receive all the vaccines for which they are eligible, on time.
4 - What's something that you didn't know or surprised you when you did the quizzes?
I think it was more the level of humour used in some of the questions and answers. I laughed out loud with some of them! The IBI team has done a great job!
5 - If you could give one message to vaccine hesitant parents, what would it be?
It’s hard to keep to ONE message. My recommendation is to keep an open mind, seek information from reputable professionals, research reliable on-line resources and view any others with caution. Just because information is “out there” doesn’t mean it is fact.
