Pediatry ICU - a toddler with meningococcal

As a new nurse in the late 1980s, I saw a toddler in Pediatry ICU who had survived meningococcal disease. She had lost some fingers and toes but her parents were so grateful that she survived. She was a beautiful child who was running all of the unit prior to her discharge - and there were no dry eyes in the house!

No vaccine was available then, but there is now.
