Vaccines protect even those who cannot get the vaccine

I support immunization because of children like my best friend's son. He was born with a complex congenital heart defect and was very sick for the first 9 months of his life. He got sicker and sicker despite multiple heart surgeries. Finally he received a heart transplant, and is healthy now. However, he will be immunocompromised for the rest of his life and unable to receive vaccines. Due to immunization rates being too low for sufficient herd immunity, her mother plans to home school him. If he comes into contact with a child who has measles or chickenpox his life would be in jeopardy.

Vaccines protect this child, giving him a chance for a happy and healthy life.
